Top 10 On Current-Gen: Fallout 3

Toime for number.. 6. This one is a game I've waited for a long time, and when it finally came it didn't disappoint. It's Bethesda's Fallout 3.. enough said.

Fallout 3

So what is Fallout 3 (assuming you've been living somewhere under a rock, hiding from nuclear war)?
Fallout 3 is a sandox RPG/third person shooter where you're basically free to go wherever you want and do whatever you want. And just to illustrate how free you are in this game..

Yes.. that is a nuclear explosion triggered by you. You can destroy a whole town in this game. Of course, this particular nuke was a quest based thing, and you don't get to destroy other towns or blow up any more big nukes, but you do have mini nukes that you are free to shoot wherever-whenever.

OK, let's go step-by-step. In Fallout universe there's been a great nuclear war between USA and China. At the time USA government built Vaults in hundreds of locations across the country to protect the people in case of nuclear war (the real purpose of these Vaults was different but I don't want to spoil it, as you will figure it during the game). Fallout 3 is set in Washington DC and surrounding area called The Wasteland in the game. One more thing that really makes this whole world so unique is a blend of futuristic and 50's technology. Basically, Fallout universe looks like the future the way it was imagined by people living back in the 50s.

You start by being born, yes, the first game ever (that I know of) where you see yourself born and even play as a baby and trough childhood. Those are all short sections where you get to know Vault 101 and learn all that you need to know to survive.

Once you grow up, some things happen that make you get out of the Vault and that's when the game really starts. From that moment you are free to do whatever you want. And I can't find words to explain that chilling sensation that I felt the first time I got out and saw the post-apocalyptic world before me.

From this point on, the game plays like any Elder Scrolls game does. You walk around, interact with people, get to make a lot of choices (which bear more weight in Fallout compared to TES and lead to different endings), collect ammo, weapons and all kinds of everyday objects to sell to earn a few bucks(caps). The one thing I loved here is how long it takes you to get rich unlike TES games where I'd get rich too soon. It helps to make this post-apocalyptic world feel more real.

There are many stories in this world and I won't go into them as that would take a couple of books to write down, and I don't want to spoil them either but I can assure you each and every one is great. From a lonely child who's father just got killed by mutated ants, to an old historian who's trying to collect pre-war  memorabilia to build a museum as a place of knowledge of the past.

And if you ever do get tired of this whole world, then there's DLC to make it even more interesting. DLC brings even more space to play, especially Point Lookout which allows you to travel south by boat to a whole new land filled with swamps and inbred rednecks that are damn difficult to kill. And on the other side you have Mothership Zeta which gets you abducted by aliens.

Go now.. lose yourself in this big, dangerous post-apocalyptic world.. or check out previous entries on our top 10 on current-gen:
